Wiltshire Geology Group

The Wiltshire Geology Group is a county geoconservation group, belonging to The Geology Trusts, Geoconservation UK and affiliated to the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. It designates and monitors the condition of geological sites and promotes an interest in the geology of Wiltshire among the general public.

    Local Geological Sites in Wiltshire have all been reviewed and their condition monitored in 2010-2011

    6 new Local Geological Sites were designated in 2010 -11

Make relevant to the wider world

  • 2012 Chalk Links project
    2012 Chalk Links project funded by the North Wessex Downs AONB and Wiltshire Council Area Board: produced 6 fact sheets, downloadable from website, led 2 themed guided walks & 1 presentation at a 'Geodiversity Forum'.

Create resources to help integrate geodiversity into learning

  • 'Rock Detectives'
    'Rock Detectives' days during half-term holidays encouraged children to take an interest in Earth Science through a range of online Earth Learning Ideas developed by Keele University.

  • Rock Detective volunteers
    Increased volunteer numbers at 'Rock Detective' days by encouraging non-geologists to participate.
